Pick up and Drop off Expectations
Kindergarten Kiss n' Ride
We offer a morning Kindergarten Kiss and Drop in our north ‘Kindie Loop’.
This is open to families with Kindergarten age children only Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday.
Note- Wednesdays the Kindie Loop is closed for our Walk n' Wheel Wednesdays!
We welcome a single lane of cars who pull up and have the driver open the passenger doors to allow students to be picked up on the sidewalk beside the car. School staff then walk students to their kindergarten gate.
Parking Lot and Whole School Kiss n' Ride
We have closed our main parking lot completely this year for Grade 1-8 student morning drop off. Over the years, this morning kiss n’ ride loop has needed many staff members to ensure student safety and traffic control. Our school’s supervision of students is better utilized in more student-centered areas and during our instructional times of the day, and managing traffic flow creates unsafe conditions for both staff and students; and is beyond the role and responsibility of our educators.
Alternatively, we ask that families park offsite and walk with their children onto school grounds, or drop off at locations where staff on duty (field and pathways) can supervise students moving to the blacktop area.
Parents may Pick Up after school using the designated loop. Please do not idle your vehicle as you wait to approach the blacktop area.
Possible Drop Off / Walk In locations:
Catwalk Entrance on Grand Ravine Drive (Stop Sign at Grand Ravine and Oakmead intersection)
Pathway off Fernlea Crescent
Millbank Park (off Millbank Drive) *May be busy given St. Andrew’s morning drop off
Park offsite where permitted (e.g., Grand Ravine Dr., Norfolk Dr., or other side streets that permit parking) and walk in
Park offsite on Windfield Dr. (North of Glenashton/Caldwell); and walk in using Crossing Guards at intersection of Glenashton and Caldwell/Windfield
Connections to Learning for a Sustainable Future
In addition to our attention to safety, we have newly become a Sustainable Future School (SFS) with a strong focus on the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) in and outside of our classrooms. Encouraging students to walk or ride to school, or Drive to 5 and walk to school promotes Good Health and Well Being (Goal #3), Building Sustainable Cities and Communities (Goal # 11) and Taking Climate Action (Goal #13).
We recognize that this will be a change in routine for families who typically drive through our parking lot to drop off students. Families with extenuating circumstances can reach out to Administration and will be accommodated. We appreciate your cooperation and planning in advance of our first day of school.
